In Fall 2023, over 200 culinary students collaborated to give life to the Hub City Foods food truck, drawing name inspiration from Compton's geographical center location in LA County. This operational truck is set to become a distinctive teaching tool, providing invaluable hands-on experience for culinary students currently lacking a dedicated culinary kitchen, while their new high school construction is being completed.
Washoe County School District
School location: Reno, NV
Truck name: Global Street Foods
Global Street Foods, a food truck run by Washoe County students, boasts a sustainable design with a renewable battery system and solar panels for up to 12-hours of daily operation. Over 130 culinary arts students came together to brainstorm and determine the global cuisine name and theme and over 150 graphic design students designed the wrap, planning to use the truck at district and community events.
Dallas Independent School District
School location: Dallas, TX
Truck name: Curbside Delights
Launched in January 2024, Curbside Delights is a collaboration of 160 culinary and 85 graphic design students from Skyline, Bryan Adams and Molina high schools. The truck's wrap was curated from 9 finalist designs and completed by teaming up with Intuit designers. It was unveiled at an event uniting students from diverse disciplines. This truck will be used as a training tool and for special school events. During the 2024-25 school year, Curbside Delights will be shared by 10 culinary arts programs in the district.
Los Angeles Unified School District (John H. Francis Polytechnic High School)
School location: Sun Valley, CA
Truck name: Poly Prime
Launched in February 2024, Poly Prime is the result of the collaborative effort of over 120 culinary arts students and 4 graphic design students from Polytechnic High School. This truck, flaunting a student-designed wrap, made its debut at a vibrant school celebration involving students from multiple disciplines. It will serve not only as a teaching tool in the classroom, but also at various community events. Poly Prime has become part of the culture at Polytechnic High School, showcasing the talent and hard work that CTE students invest into the program.
Los Angeles Unified School District (Maywood Academy High School)
School location: Maywood, CA
Truck name: Nighthawk Cravings
Nighthawk Cravings, inspired by the Maywood Academy mascot, was launched in January 2024 by 82 culinary arts students in partnership with a number of other CTE pathways who helped make the celebration event a success. The food truck will serve as a classroom teaching facility before branching out for public use. Local business owners are mentoring students to prepare them for their forthcoming food truck venture.
San Diego Unified School District
School location: San Diego, CA
Truck name: Sunset Bites
Shared across 5 schools, the San Diego Unified School District food truck, Sunset Bites, was brought to life by over 450 culinary arts and graphic design students and launched in February 2024. The students brainstormed and voted on the name, and used the program resource guidebook to get guidance on crafting their design. They had so many great design options, that they worked with the Intuit team to merge a handful of ideas into one amazing truck wrap!
