Guidelines for Service of Legal Process

This page provides some guidelines for the service of subpoenas, summonses, search warrants, preservation requests, and court orders (collectively referred to below as a “legal process”) on Intuit and its subsidiaries.

U.S. Legal Process Requirements

Please note that Intuit responds only to valid legal process issued in compliance with applicable law, including the federal Stored Communications Act ("SCA"), 18 U.S.C. Sections 2701-2712, as may be applicable to certain Intuit products, including QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Time.

For those SCA-covered services, governmental entities may obtain:

  • basic subscriber information (defined in 18 U.S.C. Section 2703(c)(2)) with a validly issued subpoena, summons, or court order;
  • non-content records, including of transactions with Intuit, with a court order issued under 18 U.S.C. Section 2703(d); and
  • contents of customer accounts, including customer-created accounting records, with a search warrant.

Nongovernmental persons or entities may obtain basic subscriber information and non-content records, including of transactions with Intuit, with a validly issued subpoena or court order. Nongovernmental persons or entities seeking the contents of customer accounts should seek this information directly from the Intuit customer.

How to Serve Legal Process Inside the U.S.

U.S. law enforcement and regulatory agencies

Intuit accepts service of legal process from federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, courts and regulatory agencies in the United States through its registered agent, Corporation Service Company (CSC). Legal process may be served in-person or by mail at the following address:

Intuit Inc.

c/o Corporation Service Company (CSC)

251 Little Falls Drive

Wilmington, DE 19808

It is Intuit’s practice not to accept requests sent via email or mail to Intuit Inc.’s headquarters or any other Intuit office locations, unless allowed by the laws, rules or regulations governing your legal request. Please note that service made by means other than CSC may not be handled efficiently.

Intuit reserves the right to object to any legal process it receives, including but not limited to overbroad and/or burdensome requests.

Civil Actions

Legal process for civil matters must be made pursuant to the rules applicable to the jurisdiction in which the matter is pending. Civil subpoenas issued from state courts outside of California should be properly domesticated in California. Once a matter has been properly domesticated in California, it may be served at the following address:

Intuit Inc.

c/o Corporation Service Company (CSC)

2710 Gateway Oaks Drive

Suite 150N

Sacramento, CA 95833

Preservation of Records Pending Legal Process

Consistent with 18 U.S.C. § 2703(f), Intuit will preserve records for up to 90 days pending issuance of legal process if it receives a written preservation request. Unless Intuit receives an additional preservation request, Intuit will after 90 days release the preservation and the preserved records will be subject to Intuit’s normal retention or destruction schedules.

All preservation requests should specifically identify the records to be preserved, the time period for which they are to be preserved, and that legal process is forthcoming.
