Meet James Harris — From an Atlanta Barbershop to Intuit’s Strategic Accounts

Meet James Harris

A dozen years into a high-achieving financial services sales career, James Harris was ready for a new challenge. At companies including J.P Morgan, Wells Fargo, First Data Corp, Fiserv, and Equifax, James had built a reputation for commitment, ownership, and performance. Now, he wanted to find a company on the leading edge of innovation— with ambitious goals for growth. 

James joined Intuit in August 2024 as a senior account executive in strategic account management, an outbound sales role where he drives sales while helping customers unlock the full value of Intuit’s platform. We sat down with James to learn a little more about why he’s excited to be part of Intuit.

Tell us about where you’re from.

I grew up in the vibrant city of Atlanta, GA. Atlanta has always had a special place in my heart as it’s the city I proudly call home. I hold cherished memories of helping at my father’s barbershop on historic Auburn Ave, where I not only learned the trade but also met a diverse group of people who enriched my understanding of community. The friendships I forged while playing basketball at the local YMCA have lasted a lifetime and the close-knit community atmosphere there often felt like an extended family. Atlanta, with its rich history and dynamic culture, shaped me into who I am today.

What was your path that led you to Intuit?

The opportunity to join and contribute to a burgeoning sales organization at Intuit is incredibly exciting for me. I am eager to leverage my decade-long expertise in the Financial Services industry to build a robust foundation and create effective strategies tailored for success. Throughout my career, I have honed skills in enabling commerce and driving growth initiatives which I hope to bring to Intuit. My approach has always been about taking extreme ownership and actively engaging in hands-on problem-solving—values I understand are deeply appreciated at Intuit. This role provides the perfect platform to blend my professional experiences with my personal drive to contribute meaningfully towards our overarching corporate objectives.

What role does your sales team play for Intuit?

Currently, I serve as a Senior Account Executive on the Strategic Account Management team, specializing in the movement of money. Our team plays a pivotal role in enabling payment acceptance & account payable solutions for our high-value clients, specifically through our Intuit QuickBooks platform. We ensure that our clients have seamless, efficient financial transactions, which is crucial for their business operations. My role involves closely collaborating with cross-functional teams to tailor our solutions to meet the unique needs of each client, thereby enhancing their overall satisfaction and contributing to their success. Our strategic efforts not only drive client retention and growth but also bolster the financial ecosystem within QuickBooks.

What opportunity are you most excited about?

I’m most excited about the potential to witness the impact of our organization’s efforts 1-2 years down the line. Although Intuit is a well-established company, I appreciate that our team maintains the scrappiness and agility of a startup. We operate at extreme velocity, with new innovations being introduced weekly, which keeps the work environment exhilarating. It’s true that we are building it as we fly, but that’s exactly what makes this journey so thrilling. We are at the nascent stages of creating something truly special, and you can feel its burgeoning vitality with every personal interaction within the firm. I am particularly looking forward to how these innovations will not only transform our business but also offer tremendous learning and growth opportunities for everyone involved.

What do you enjoy doing when not at work?

When I’m not at work, I cherish spending time with my family and friends, exploring a variety of interests that enrich my life. I have a deep appreciation for the arts and nature. Some of my favorite activities include hiking and biking, especially along the Beltline near our Atlanta site. I’m also an avid fan of dining at new vegan restaurants, enjoying the vibrant beats of Amapiano music, and visiting art exhibitions—Art Basel this year was particularly amazing! Additionally, I love traveling to immerse myself in new cultures and to discover the world’s most beautiful beaches. These experiences not only provide relaxation and enjoyment but also inspire creativity and a broader perspective in my personal and professional life.
