A Place Where Women in Sales Want to Work

Women are underrepresented in sales, particularly in leadership. Intuit is trying to change that and was recently recognized as the top company where women want to work. Get advice from Intuit saleswomen on what makes a great workplace and how to succeed in your career.

Championing women in sales

When companies ramp up their diversity and inclusion efforts, their focus usually goes to tech and engineering roles. But women are underrepresented in sales, too. That’s why it’s meaningful that Intuit was recently recognized as number one on the list of the “Top 25 Companies Where Women Want to Work” released by GirlsClub, a professional organization focused on getting more women in sales leadership.

Did you know that the sales industry has the third largest gender equity gap, according to a recent US Census American Community Survey? Globally, CEB data shows that women hold 4 of 10 entry-level sales roles, 3 in 10 first- and mid-level management roles, and 2 in 10 department head or general manager type roles. Sales teams are missing out on ‌the benefits that diverse teams bring. Numerous studies have proven that gender-diverse teams reach higher levels of performance, revenue, and innovation.

At Intuit, we pride ourselves on creating an environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging, respect, and safety. This year, we set the goal to increase the number of saleswomen and we’re surpassing our goal of having women make up 40% of our sales workforce. While there are still opportunities to do better, we see an intentional commitment from all levels of the sales organization to create a work culture where all employees, regardless of gender, can do the best work of their lives. Hear what some of our sales employees are saying:

What does a great workplace culture look like to you?

“A great workplace is one that creates a sense of belonging – by ensuring employees feel connected to the work by a sense of purpose, connected to each other in meaningful ways, and recognized for their accomplishments. What I love about Intuit is that its strong values (Stronger Together, Courage, Customer Obsession, etc) and leadership playbook (Lead with a Clear Vision, Build a High Performance Culture, Drive Winning Results) support those outcomes.”
– Laura Friedman, Director, Sales Strategy and Programs

“A great place to work for me is an environment that challenges and supports me with an opportunity to grow and get better every day. Having a servant leader and a diverse team are important for me too. More diversity is more experience we are able to share.”
– Kelly Diamond, Account Manager

“A great workplace culture looks like me (or anyone) having the ability to grow and push boundaries with the right support and guidance – fearless of consequences for being ourselves or advocating for ourselves and others.”
– Jessica Benton, Sales Strategy and Business Operations Manager

“A great workplace culture is one where you are encouraged to come as you are confidently. One with a support system you can rely on and knowing others can count on you, too. One where you can speak freely and sharing opinions and feedback is encouraged.”
– Caroline McHugh, Senior Sales Product Specialist

“A great place to work is one with open communication, mutual respect and commitment to employees’ growth and development. Intuit leadership encourages and fosters positive experiences that improve teamwork, raise moral, and increase productivity all around. These are some of the major reasons that I love working for Intuit all these years.”
– Elham Kazemi, Account Manager

“For me, a great workplace culture is one that values diversity and recognizes the unique strengths that every person brings to the table. At Intuit, I believe that we all feel empowered to innovate and think outside the box in order to drive the company forward. Plus, the emphasis on work-life balance and flexible scheduling is a huge plus!”
– Jasmine Jahangiri, Digital Sales Manager

How have you felt supported at Intuit?

“Throughout my time at Intuit, I have been extremely fortunate to have felt an unwavering sense of support and guidance from my mentors and leaders. Their valuable insights and encouragement have been instrumental in helping me reach where I am today, and I feel extremely grateful to have people in my career who have been so invested in my growth and success. Their consistent backing has enabled me to tackle new challenges with confidence and continue to push myself to achieve my goals.”
– Jordan Haley, Digital Sales Manager

“I have felt supported by Intuit in so many ways. Between amazing health benefits  (including coverage for reproductive & mental health needs), caring, people-focused leadership, and ample development opportunities, support has never been a question, but a definitive fact.”
– Caroline McHugh, Senior Sales Product Specialist

“We are one at Intuit. The amount of support and mentorship that I have been given to help continue in my career journey has been incredible. Everyone is invested in your success.”
– Tina Gray, Senior Sales Manager

“Intuit has supported me by valuing my opinion and hard work and having an open-door policy whenever I have concerns or issues.”
– Shaquana Harmon, Inbound Digital Sales Consultant

“I have always felt supported at Intuit over the years. I respect our leadership who listens to their employees often. We are constantly changing to become better at everything we do. I believe in what we offer to our customers and how it impacts them personally and especially their businesses in the long run.”
– Elham Kazemi, Account Manager

What’s your advice for other women in sales?

“Do not be afraid to use your voice for good. You have a perspective that is needed and you have the right and privilege to use it. You can make a difference, big and small, for those around you so be and advocate for yourself and other women around you. Find others to lean on and resources to gain knowledge, experience, and confidence!”
– Jessica Benton, Sales Strategy and Business Operations Manager

“Many people are intimidated by the thought of a sales career because they have preconceived notions of what being in a ‘sales’ role means. Like any other function, success comes from knowing your own strengths, having a fearless curiosity, and working hard to solve the problems that matter most to the business and your customers.”
– Laura Friedman, Director, Sales Strategy and Programs

“Find a mentor and don’t be afraid to ask for help. While it can be daunting to navigate a male-dominated field, having a support system can make all the difference. Additionally, never underestimate the value of hard work and perseverance. Always continue learning and growing, and know that there’s a place for you in the tech sales world.”
– Jasmine Jahangiri, Digital Sales Manager

“Identify someone who will provide you with honest feedback while also offering encouragement and support. Take ownership of your professional development. Waiting for opportunities to come your way will only slow your progress. Learn to build a network of individuals who offer fresh perspectives and stay connected with them over time. Take risks, be bold and unafraid of being your authentic self. Establishing long-lasting partnerships through authentic communication is also a valuable asset in sales. Finally, cultivate confidence, take on new challenges, and consistently seek out strategies that enable your own growth both in and outside of the workplace.”
– Jordan Haley, Digital Sales Manager

“As women, we bring strengths and experiences that are unique that give us a competitive edge in being successful. At Intuit, one of my favorite values is Stronger Together and part of being stronger together means having a diverse and inclusive environment to be able to hear all voices.”
– Tina Gray, Senior Sales Manager

“With Intuit, when you work hard, it’s rewarded and celebrated both professionally and personally!”
– Shaquana Harmon, Inbound Digital Sales Consultant
